Basement Reno: Installing a Shower in the Basement

December 1, 2011

We are one step closer to begining the part of the basement renovation that will actually change the appearance of the space. So far everything we’ve done has been in preparation and not visually satisfying. I keep spending money, but the space looks the same. Ughhh.

A plumber came out a few weeks ago and installed the plumbing for the new shower. We are opening up the existing finished half bathroom and expanding it to include a tub/shower. This involved breaking up the floor and connecting the new drain into the existing sewer line.

The white pipe you see it the new drain line. The black pipe is the reconnection of the clay drainage tiles that had to be broken to access the drain line. These are redirected to the sump pump I have described in previous posts.

The plumbing will be finished when the bathroom framing goes up.

Next step insulation and framing!
