Matchmaker, Matchmaker Make Me a Match!

March 16, 2011

I met with Kim Bayer today in order to narrow down my choices for the CSA farm share we are going to participate in.

There are some really good contenders:

  • Frog Holler Organic Farm:  Not the same as the Frog Holler Produce trucks you see driving around. Apparently the two companies are completely separate. $25/week for 18 weeks of a box full of delicious vegetables (fresh herbs too), with the option to add their pre-made salad mix. Lot’s of activity on the farm, with pick-up on Saturday’s at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market.

  • Needle Lane Farm: They have half shares which is perfect for a couple instead of a family. $19/week for 20 weeks of 1/2 bushel of vegetables (fresh herbs too). They also have a flower share! $200 for 16 weeks of fresh cut flowers – 12.50/week for a bouquet of dahlia’s, gladiolas etc…got to love that. Tuesday pick-up at Morgan and York.

  • Sunseed Farm: Year round Michigan produce! they grow most of their vegetables in Hoop Houses so that they are able to grow food for all seasons. $35/week for 16 weeks for the summer season. Huge selection of greens so you can get really creative with cooking. Also, this farm is own by a young couple which makes it that much cooler!
